Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm non-dairy milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (natural)
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup (natural)
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (natural)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (natural)
  • Pinch of natural gelling agent

Optional Variations and Toppings

  • Chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch
  • Ground cardamom or nutmeg for spiced aroma
  • Dried cranberries or raisins for fruit infusion
  • Maple glaze: extra maple syrup (natural) mixed with powdered sugar (natural)
  • Sesame or chia seeds for seeded topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the non-dairy milk to about 110°F. Dissolve the active dry yeast with a pinch of brown sugar in the warm milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sea salt, and the remaining brown sugar. Add the yeast mixture, softened plant-based butter, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural). Mix well and knead gently until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  2. First Rise: Place the dough ball in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel and leave it in a warm place to rise until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  3. Make the Filling: While the dough rises, mix together the maple syrup (natural), softened plant-based butter, cinnamon (natural), brown sugar (natural), and a pinch of natural gelling agent until smooth and luscious.
  4. Shape and Fill the Rolls: Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a 12 by 18 inch rectangle. Spread the maple-cinnamon filling evenly over the dough. Roll it tightly from the long edge into a log shape and cut into 9 to 12 equal pieces.
  5. Second Rise and Bake: Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, leaving some space between each. Cover and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes until puffed up. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

  • Ensure the non-dairy milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Knead the dough well to develop gluten for soft, stretchy rolls.
  • Allow the dough to fully double in size during rising for best texture.
  • Use a sharp knife or dental floss to slice the rolls cleanly.
  • Check baking progress to avoid over-baking and keep rolls tender.
