Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (natural gelling agent)
- 1 cup plant-based milk, warmed to about 110°F
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons plant-based butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Filling
- ½ cup brown sugar (natural)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (natural)
- 3 tablespoons plant-based butter, melted
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar (natural)
- 2 tablespoons plant-based milk
- 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: Warm plant-based milk to about 110°F, then stir in active dry yeast with a pinch of granulated sugar. Let the mixture bloom for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture, apple cider vinegar, and melted plant-based butter. Mix until dough forms, then knead lightly on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and allow it to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Prepare the Filling: Mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt plant-based butter and have it ready for spreading on the dough.
- Assemble and Roll: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Brush the dough evenly with melted plant-based butter. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar filling mixture evenly over the buttered dough. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Bake in Cast Iron: Generously grease a cast iron skillet with plant-based butter. Place the rolled dough seam side down in the center of the skillet, tucking the ends under slightly. Cover and let it rise again for 20 to 30 minutes until puffy. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the cinnamon roll for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Make the Glaze and Serve: While baking, mix powdered sugar with plant-based milk and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce to create a smooth and shiny glaze. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon roll right after it comes out of the oven for a perfect sweet finish.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients to help the dough rise efficiently and achieve a fluffy texture.
- Do not rush the rising times to ensure a tender and airy dough.
- Lightly flour your kneading surface to prevent sticking without drying out the dough.
- Monitor baking time closely to avoid overbaking, aiming for a golden crust and soft center.
- Allow the cinnamon roll to cool slightly before applying the glaze for easier spreading and setting.
