Description

Authentic Churros are the perfect plant-based snack combining a crispy golden exterior with a soft, airy inside, coated in cinnamon sugar. This easy-to-make recipe uses simple pantry staples and comes together in under 30 minutes, offering a delightful treat with traditional Spanish flavors. Ideal for any occasion, these churros are versatile and can be customized with various toppings and dips.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (natural)

Coating

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (natural)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Start by bringing water, vegetable oil, and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan. Once boiling, reduce the heat and stir in the flour all at once. Mix vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before moving on.
  2. Add Flavor and Mix: Transfer the dough into a bowl and stir in the vanilla extract (natural). Mix it well to ensure the flavor is evenly distributed. At this stage, the dough should be warm but manageable for piping.
  3. Pipe the Churros: Fit a piping bag with a large star-shaped nozzle and fill it with the dough. Pipe 4-6 inch strips directly onto parchment paper or a tray, making sure to keep a little space between each to avoid sticking after frying.
  4. Heat the Oil and Fry: Heat a deep pan with vegetable oil to about 350°F (175°C). Carefully lower the piped churros into the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  5. Drain and Sugar Coat: Using a slotted spoon, remove the churros and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While still warm, toss them in a bowl of cinnamon (natural) and sugar mixture for that irresistible sweet coating.

Notes

  • Maintain consistent oil temperature so churros fry evenly without absorbing too much oil.
  • Use fresh vegetable oil for a cleaner taste and crispier finish.
  • Pipe the dough firmly but steadily to create perfect ridges.
  • Serve churros hot to enjoy maximum crunch and softness.
  • Use a star-shaped piping nozzle for classic texture and appearance.
